Additional delay for part of Duke Energy’s Asheville gas plant

Duke Energy Progress has let North Carolina regulators know that there will be another delay in completing the Asheville Combined Cycle natural gas plant in Arden.

Duke lawyer Bo Sommers has written the N.C. Utilities Commission to say that one of the steam turbines for one of the power blocks of the 560-megawatt plant will not be finished by the end of January.

But Duke will still close the 344-megawatt coal plant at the site this month, Somers says. The plant is expected to start commercial operations…
