AEP sees power demand tick back up, but challenges remain

Columbus-based American Electric Power Company Inc. says power usage is rebounding since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, driven by lots of people at home and warm weather.

But power usage is not quite back to normal, and the company has also dealt with Hurricane Hanna in Texas, which knocked out power to 200,000 customers.

“On the financial front our operating earnings performance has been strong in the face of these challenges,” CEO Nick Akins said.
