Hearings continued this week in Montgomery before the Alabama Public Service Commission regarding Alabama Power’s proposed $1.1 billion expansion.
The utility provider says it needs to add 2,400 megawatts of electric capacity to eliminate winter blackouts. Employees and contractors testified that the demand for electricity is no longer at its peak during hot summer days. It’s now winter peaking, and Alabama Power wants to generate 25% more electricity to keep up with demand.
