Are oil and gas involved with Wichita earthquakes? KCC weighs in

The Kansas Corporation Commission says oil and gas activity has had no impact on the recent earthquakes centered in east Wichita.

The KCC, which is the regulating agency for the industry in Kansas, said a study of earthquakes revealed no connection between drilling or construction of new wells.

“Based on our investigation, KCC staff does not believe the seismicity in Wichita … is tied to any oil and gas activities in the area,” said Ryan Hoffman, director of the KCC conservation division.
