Arizona’s mining industry faces stiff challenge in the race for rare earth elements

Rare earth elements are critical in making certain components for electric vehicles, renewable energy tech and more, but the U.S. is way behind production levels in China. One Arizona company, Western Rare Earths, is trying to narrow that gap by exploring the possibility of opening a rare earth element mine in La Paz County, which would be the first in the state.
