Texas oil regulator: ‘What our eyes are on is not the pain of today. It’s the pain of the future’

Texas Railroad Commissioner Ryan Sitton thinks it’s important to put the current crisis facing the oil industry into context.

Around 1975, the oil and gas market was the most over-supplied it has ever been, Sitton said Friday in an interview with the Dallas Business Journal. During that time, the market was over-supplied by 5.7 percent. Currently, the market is speculated to be nearly 15 percent over-supplied.

Hawaii fuel production uninterrupted, says Par Hawaii

Responding to concerns about possible fuel shortages in Hawaii as the Islands hunker down, Par Hawaii President Jim Yates issued a statement Thursday that the refinery is “continuing to refine petroleum products, including jet fuel, gasoline, diesel, utility fuels and ship fuels, and is distributing these transportation fuels statewide.”

HEI Charitable Foundation donates $125K to nonprofits for COVID-19 relief

The Hawaii Electric Industries Charitable Foundation (HEICF) donated a total of $125,000 to local nonprofits across the state to support families in need during the COVID-19 pandemic.

HEICF contributed $50,000 to the Hawaii Foodbank, $50,000 to Aloha United Way, $10,000 to Hawaii United Way, $10,000 to Maui United Way and $5,000 to Kauai United Way.

Pipe manufacturing co. laying off hundreds in Houston, elsewhere amid low oil prices

Luxembourg-based steel pipe manufacturer Tenaris SA (NYSE: TS) is reducing operations and laying off a combined 900 employees across multiple U.S. sites in response to low oil prices and other market pressures.

In the Houston area, the company is planning a temporary significant reduction in operations at its threading plant at 2600 Grand Parkway in Baytown. The reduction will begin on April 17, with 223 employees slated to be laid off, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification…

Apache Corp. plans Texas layoffs

Houston-based Apache Corp. is planning a round of layoffs in Midland, Texas.

The oil and gas exploration and production company filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act letter with the state saying that Apache plans to conduct a “mass layoff” at its 303 Veterans Airpark Lane facility in Midland. About 85 are affected, with the separation process beginning March 18, according to the WARN letter, which the Texas Workforce Commission released March 20.

Duke Energy jumps on low interest rates, working out a $1.5B loan from international banks

Duke Energy Corp. has taken advantage of historically low interest rates to secure a $1.5 billion, 364-day loan in a move the company says it’s making to pay off commercial paper that currently caries a higher rate.

The company has also borrowed the remaining $500 million from an existing $1 billion revolving credit facility established last May.
