American Water closes $8.6M deal in Chester County

Pennsylvania American Water closed its deal to buy a Chester County wastewater system, the company announced Thursday.

The Pennsylvania subsidiary of Camden-based American Water (NYSE: AWK) paid $8.6 million for Sadsbury Township’s sewer system, which serves 1,000 customers. It already operates the township’s water system.

Exxon Mobil Corp. (NYSE: XOM), which has a major presence in Houston, has reached a settlement with federal prosecutors over its role in a 2013 fire at an oil refinery in Beaumont, Texas, that killed two workers and 10 others.

Houston LNG co. inks deal for 984 acres for South Texas export facility

Houston-based NextDecade Corp. (Nasdaq: NEXT) has secured land for a large-scale liquefied natural gas export terminal along the Port of Brownsville on the southern Texas coast. 

Rio Grande LNG LLC, a NextDecade subsidiary, entered into a lease agreement with the Brownsville Navigation District for a 984-acre parcel of land in Cameron County, according to a press release. The lease is for an initial 30-year term and includes two options for 10-year extensions.

Georgia Power, Georgia Tech partnering on ‘microgrid’ project

Georgia Power Co. and Georgia Tech have announced a new partnership to build a 1.4-megawatt “microgrid” in Midtown Atlanta’s Tech Square.

Microgrids are self-contained power systems located at the facilities they plan to serve. They include generation resources, storage systems and energy management systems.

The microgrid at 5th and Spring streets will serve as a living laboratory for Tech professors and students.

KC drives big push for energy efficiency

Kansas City is pushing to go green, and its plans to power municipal buildings sans carbon is inching closer to fruition, The Kansas City Star reports.
