The deactivation of the Bruce Mansfield coal-fired power plant in Beaver County began Thursday.
The deactivation of the plant had originally been scheduled for 2021 by its owner, First Energy Solutions. But the company, which is going through a Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization, announced in the summer that the only remaining unit would be shut down in early November.
