Coal-ash deal would trim rate hikes for Duke Energy utilities. Here’s how much.

Duke Energy reached settlements last month with the Public Staff of the N.C. Utilities Commission, the N.C. Attorney General’s Office and the Sierra Club. In them, its utilities in the state agreed to bear about $1 billion of their total $8.5 billion in costs for cleaning up their coal-ash operations.
