Cumberland Mine owner limits capital spending at mine

The owner of the Cumberland Mine has delayed the start of work to build a new coal waste impoundment facility.

Contura Energy in early February said it was “exploring all of its options” regarding Cumberland, which employs 700 workers at its coal mining and processing complex in Waynesburg. It didn’t rule out selling Cumberland, a thermal coal mine for electricity production, unlike most of the Contura (NYSE: CTRA) mines that make coal for steelmaking.
