Duke Energy-backed utility reform compromise on fast track to approval

The utility reform bill now on track to reach N.C. Gov. Roy Cooper’s desk as early as Friday ends as a major victory for Duke Energy Corp. and a less certain, but still significant, win for Cooper and aligned environmental groups.

Two Senate committees approved the bill overwhelmingly today with just a single nay vote recorded. And after a quick spin through the Senate Rules Committee tomorrow, it is slated for a floor vote Thursday and could be acted on by the House in a single vote Friday.
