Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approves Exelon’s planned split

Exelon Corp. recently achieved a key milestone in its plan to split into two separate publicly traded companies.

Chicago-based Exelon, the parent company of locally based Baltimore Gas & Electric Co. and Constellation, received approval for the planned split from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) on Aug. 24. The split will result in one company consisting of the energy giant’s regulated utilities and the other consisting of its power-generating business.
