Fire at Houston-area oil and gas facility intensifies, more tanks involved

The fire at Intercontinental Terminals Company LLC’s Deer Park facility, at 1943 Independence Parkway, intensified overnight due to a temporary reduction in water pressure, according to a press release ITC issued at 2:30 a.m. March 19.

The number of affected tanks has now increased to eight, including two empty tanks, per the release. A day earlier, ITC said the tanks burning contain toluene — used to produce nail polish remover, glues and paint thinner — as well as naphtha and xylene —…
