Gas prices spike in Bay Area. Here’s why you’re paying more.

The price of a gallon of gasoline shot up in the past week, hitting an average of $3.98 in San Jose, $4 in Oakland and $4.18 in San Francisco, according to a survey from GasBuddy. The per-gallon amounts reflect respective average increases of 26.4 cents, 25 cents and 29.2 cents.
