Here’s how much Duke Energy is seeking to raise utility rates in NC

Duke Energy Carolinas has proposed a 6 percent rate hike that would raise $291 million in additional annual revenue for the Charlotte-based utility.

The new rates, if approved by the N.C. Utilities Commission, would go into effect next summer. Residential customers would see their rates increase by 6.7 percent, on average, under the proposal. For a typical customer using about 1,000 kilowatt-hours a month, the average monthly bill would increase $8.06 to about $116.26.
