Duke Energy Carolinas has proposed a 6% rate hike that would raise $291 million in additional annual revenue for the Charlotte-based utility.
The new rates, if approved by the N.C. Utilities Commission, would go into effect next summer. Residential customers would see their rates increase by 6.7%, on average, under the proposal. For a typical customer using about 1,000 kilowatt-hours a month, the average monthly bill would increase $8.06 to about $116.26.
