North Carolina regulators cast doubt on Duke Energy’s plan for $2.3 billion in grid upgrades

Duke Energy’s strategy to build support for a three-year grid improvement plan through settlements with rate-hike opponents may have hit a snag at the N.C. Utilities Commission.

“I do approach this settlement with a degree of skepticism, to be completely candid,” commissioner Floyd McKissick Jr. said during testimony about the grid plan Thursday afternoon. “And I think it’s going to take some thought, reflection and sorting through some of the details.”
