Oregon House passes bill to aid low-income utility ratepayers

A bill that could help low-income Oregonians pay their energy utility bills cleared the House on Friday.

House Bill 4067, which would give the Public Utility Commission flexibility to consider ways to make energy more affordable to “energy burdened” low-income households, moved onto the Senate on a 44-10 vote.

As it stands, the PUC has to treat all customers the same as it regulates rates for investor-owned utilities such as Portland General Electric, Pacific Power and NW Natural.
