On Hawaii Island, the impacts of the stay-at-home order have been difficult for restaurants in Honokaa, where locally owned eateries have gone from 60 tables per shift, to only two or three to-go orders a day.
To give back to the local economy, Pacific Current’s subsidiary Hamakua Energy, which operates the Hamakua Energy power generation facility, started an initiative to provide meals purchased from various local eateries to health care workers and first responders in Honokaa.
