Railroad Commission of Texas doubles down on controversial oil rules

The Railroad Commission of Texas on Jan. 6 — in response to an ongoing lawsuit — upheld a decision to temporarily exempt the oil and gas industry from certain regulations.

The Commission said it was addressing violations of the Texas Open Meetings Act alleged in a lawsuit filed by Public Citizen and two Texas landowners. The suit accuses the agency of failing to give the public proper notice that it would take action to relieve the oil and gas industry of certain financial burdens.
