Report: FEMA could go after fire victims to pay for what PG&E owes government

The federal government says Pacific Gas and Electric Co. (NYSE: PCG) owes it about $4 billion for FEMA’s response to destructive fires in 2015, 2017 and 2018.

But what’s more, the San Francisco Chronicle reported, is that if that money is not mandated to be paid out as part of the embattled utility’s bankruptcy court judgement, FEMA may come directly to the wildfire victims to get its money back.

Under PG&E’s current bankruptcy plan, FEMA payments would come from the $13.5 billion to settle claims…
