The state will recover $15 million from Shell PLC (NYSE:SHEL), Sunoco LP (NYSE:SUN) and Citgo Petroleum Corp. to resolve allegations that the companies were responsible for the release of of methyl tertiary-butyl ether, or MTBE, from leaking underground fuel tanks. MBTE is considered by the EPA to be a probable human carcinogen.
