San Jose, Connecticut water companies close merger creating massive utility

After more than two years, much of which was spent fighting off a takeover bid, the merger between SJW Group (San Jose Water) and Connecticut Water Service Inc., closed Wednesday.

The resulting SJW Group (NYSE: SJW), based in San Jose, thus becomes the third-largest investor-owned water and wastewater utility in the United States based on its nearly 1.5 million customers in California, Connecticut, Maine and Texas, the company said in a press release.
