Shareholders OK Denver oil company’s $17B merger that will move HQ to Houston

Shareholders of Denver-based Cimarex Energy Co. voted overwhelmingly Wednesday in favor of the oil and gas company’s $17 billion merger with a Houston company, setting the stage for the deal’s closure and the loss of a local headquarters.

Owners of just over 81 million shares of Cimarex stock (NYSE: XEC) voted to approve the deal to merge with Cabot Oil & Gas Corp., which has approval from more than 90% of the ballots tallied.
