Shelby County mining company closes operation, laying off 152 employees

An Alabaster coal company has shut down operations, following the downward trend of the industry.     

Alabaster-based Jesse Creek Mining LLC has closed, a move that affects 152 employees, according to WARN notices reported by the Alabama Department of Commerce.

According to the Shelby County Reporter, the Department of Commerce is holding meetings for the affected workers in Calera on April 4.

The move follows the company’s 2016 closure of its Montevallo operation where it lay off 170 workers.
