Texas driller ordered to shut in wells for not paying impact fees

A Texas drilling company is being ordered to shut in its wells as a penalty for failure to pay about $94,000 in impact fees from 2014 to 2016 — the first time since Act 13 that the Department of Environmental Protection has had to take such a step.

DEP said two wells in Somerset County owned by Xtreme Energy of Victoria, Texas, were ordered shut in after the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission’s Bureau of Investigation & Enforcement did not pay the impact fees, charges, interest and penalties.…
