Utility giant Duke Energy reports first significant drop in carbon emissions since 2015

Duke Energy Corp. saw a large drop in carbon emissions in 2019 with the total falling to 39% of what the Charlotte-based company emitted in 2005, according to the 2019 Sustainability Report it released on Tuesday.

That was a reduction of 8 percentage points over the 31% reduction recorded in 2018 across Duke’s six-state electric utility footprint. And it is the largest percentage drop since emissions fell to 28% of 2005 totals in 2015 from 19% in 2014.
