Xcel Energy planning 140-mile Minnesota power line to support wind, solar plants

Xcel Energy Inc. (NYSE: XEL) is offering more details about a planned 140-mile transmission line that will support new solar- and wind-power projects in southwest Minnesota.

The Minneapolis-based utility said this week that it has begun contacting landowners and local governments that could be affected by its Minnesota Energy Connection line, which will run between Becker and Lyon County.

Xcel didn’t detail the cost of the project, but a Star Tribune report puts it at about $500 million. If approved…
