SwRI helping build “coal plant of the future” with DOE funding

The Southwest Research Institute has been awarded a Department of Energy grant to build a new type of turbine that could be used to power a near zero emissions coal plan

The DOE awarded $5.1 million to SwRI with the organization receiving another $1.3 million for the project from other sources. The other sources of funding weren’t identified in the announcement made by SwRI on Monday.

Hawaii solar photovoltaic permits up 22% statewide

According to data compiled by Marco Mangelsdorf, president of ProVision Solar in Hilo, over the first nine months of the year, solar photovoltaic permits were up 22% statewide — with 4,959 permits compared to 4,046 during the same period in 2019.
