Evergy reports record number of power outages after windstorm

Thousands of customers are without electricity Wednesday night after a windstorm swept through the Kansas City metro area.

Wind speeds around 50-60 mph caused tree damage, downed power lines and created other problems throughout the area. The Kansas City area also experienced severe thunderstorms, with the downtown Kansas City airport recording a wind gust over 75 mph.

Evergy Inc.’s (NYSE: EVRG) outages map showed more 4,530 outages at 9 p.m., affecting 164,921 customers in Kansas and Missouri.
