Opponents challenge Duke Energy Carolinas as it seeks to pass on coal-ash costs to customers

Duke Energy Carolinas is seeking what would amount to a 2.1% rate hike for two years. That rate, if no new rate cases are held in the next several years, would eventually rise to 7% as Duke completes repaying customer excess taxes it collected before state and federal governments cut corporate tax rates.
