Weatherford board chairman dies

Weatherford International PLC, which has its main U.S. office in Houston, announced Dec. 2 that the chairman of its board of directors died unexpected late last week.

William E. Macaulay was 74 years old and worth $1.1 billion, according to Forbes. In 1983, he co-founded First Reserve, an energy-focused private equity firm with offices in Connecticut, Houston and London. He stepped down as co-CEO of the firm in July 2017 but remained executive chairman.
