Eastern Oregon natural gas project gets more time, but still faces hurdles

Oregon regulators are giving a proposed natural gas-fired power plant another nine months to get off the drawing board, over the objections of environmental and climate groups.

The order by the Energy Facility Siting Council is a win for developer Sumitomo Corp., extending its deadline to begin work on the Perennial Wind Chaser plant until Sept. 23. But the project, near Hermiston in eastern Oregon, still faces major hurdles.
