NextEra Energy writes down $1.2B on Mountain Valley Pipeline

NextEra Energy, an energy company that is a partner in the Mountain Valley Pipeline venture, wrote off $1.2 billion of the value of its investment in the delayed natural gas pipeline.

The write off pushed NextEra (NYSE: NEE) to a 4Q net loss of $5 million. It was solely because of the pipeline, a 303-mile line that will carry natural gas from the Marcellus and Utica shales through West Virginia and Virginia to southeast gas markets.
